To direct and stimulate needed ongoing fundraising and capital campaign planning and execution efforts, we are looking for an energetic, dynamic and successful Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer to be based in Lewiston. The incumbent will be responsible for the full range of activities inherent in the major gifts fundraising arena from working closely with the MPBN’s high-level staff as well as Board of Trustees and volunteers to identify, cultivate and secure major gifts through outright and planned giving support.

A Bachelor’s degree is required as is three to five years experience in fundraising for public broadcasting or other nonprofits, or commensurate experience building external relationships, plus excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with membership databases strongly preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel and meet with MPBN donors and throughout Maine and beyond.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Major Gifts and Planned Gifts Officer

This position is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors, and corporations appropriate for and interested in supporting the Maine Public Broadcasting Network’s annual and capital initiatives. The individual will work with the Major Gifts staff to develop cultivation strategies, including planned giving, for each existing and potential donor and when appropriate implement these strategies and act as a contact person for MPBN. This individual will oversee and serve as contact for MPBN’s local and national planned giving initiatives, manage marketing and communication materials for planned giving tools such as bequests, charitable gift annuities and complex gifts, and manage donor cultivation for the solicitation of major and planned gifts.

DUTIES:

  1. Manage, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of major and planned gift donors.
  2. Create and implement a 3-year major gift and planned giving strategy with donor portfolio using best practices of moves management models
  3. Manage an active portfolio of approximately 100-150 donors/prospects visiting donor base on established monthly goals and contribute to the department’s monthly revenue goals.
  4. Maintain excellent major donor relations through personal contacts, phone calls email and letter correspondence.
  5. Manage major gift systems and procedures ensuring timely and accurate filing of donor interactions in the MPBN donor data base, sending timely pledge reminders as well as gift acknowledgements.
  6. Take the lead role in identifying planned giving tools and strategies to support MPBN. Educate and update major gifts team, staff and/or volunteers regularly to ensure cohesion and focus.
  7. Act as primary liaison between MPBN and partner organizations regarding planned giving and represent MPBN in a professional and ethical manner.
  8. Cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals for planned gifts with the cooperation and assistance of each branch of Development.
  9. Organize and take the lead in executing any action needed to promote planned giving program.
  10. Additional related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required. Three to five years experience required in fundraising for public broadcasting or other nonprofits, or commensurate experience building external relationships, plus excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in soliciting and closing Major Gifts preferred. Knowledge of Maine and national funders, including any funders with a particular interest in public broadcasting helpful. Experience using Excel, Word and PowerPoint required. Familiarity with membership databases a plus. Travel and a valid driver’s license required.

Part-Time, On-Call Announcer with Classical Music Experience

This part-time, on-call announcer position, based in Bangor (preferred) or Portland, performs varied on-air announcing for radio. An essential element of this position is the need for flexibility to work weekends, early mornings or late evenings as the need arises.

Responsibilities include preparation and reading of announcements and news over the air for radio, and occasionally for television; maintaining a station operations log when working as an announcer; and assisting in varied program production.

Requirements include college degree or equivalent work experience; more than one year experience as a radio or television announcer; strong familiarity with classical music, and classical music pronunciation preferred; a conversational announcing style and classical music audience-building techniques strongly desirable. Also required is the ability to make independent decisions in a dependable manner.
