To direct and stimulate needed ongoing fundraising and capital campaign planning and execution efforts, we are looking for an energetic, dynamic and successful Director of Development: Major Gifts and Planned Giving to be based in Lewiston. The incumbent will be responsible for the full range of activities inherent in the major gifts fundraising arena from working closely with the MPBN’s high-level staff as well as Board of Trustees and volunteers to identify, cultivate and secure major gifts through outright giving, planned giving and foundation support.
Five years of leadership experience in fundraising for public broadcasting or other nonprofits, or commensurate experience building external relationships is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Five or more years of management experience, including planning and execution, and budget oversight required. Experience with databases strongly preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel and meet with MPBN donors and event partners throughout Maine and beyond.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Development: Major Gifts & Planned Giving is responsible for both ongoing fundraising and capital campaign planning and execution. The position develops and manages assigned relationships, manages office support, grants, and Major Gifts Officers, coordinates annual fund activities, and identifies, cultivates, and secures major gifts. The position works closely with a variety of high-level staff, donors, members of the Board of Trustees and volunteers to maximize major gifts to MPBN. In addition, the position identifies relevant event opportunities and coordinates, with other MPBN staff, a variety of events. This person is responsible for managing event costs; working with all arms of development to secure event sponsorship when appropriate; and assigning staff to collaborate with external contacts key to event success.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
- Cultivate and solicit identified major donors through personal visits, phone calls, events, and written communications, working closely with senior management and leadership volunteers.
- Identify and solicit planned gift prospects
- Oversee prospect identification, research and evaluation, and coordinate solicitations with the prospect management group. Develop new prospects for major giving.
- Manage Feasibility Study, planning and execution of future Capital Campaign
- Responsible for meeting or exceeding fundraising goals.
- Supervise assigned staff and related budgets.
- Develop and manage office support, training and standard operating procedures related to database management, reporting and design.
- Write formal proposals for support from individuals as well as foundations and corporations when appropriate.
- Work with the Membership department to ensure a seamless flow of donors between mid- and major level giving.
- Other duties as assigned.
