Direct Mail and Fundraising Assistant

The Maine Public Broadcasting Network has a full-time opportunity in our direct mail fundraising area for an engaged, organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated individual.

The Direct Mail and Fundraising Assistant will work closely with the Manager of Direct Mail Fundraising and Member Services to provide redundancy for all segments of the direct mail program. The successful candidate for this position will contribute to a professional environment, work comfortably as part of a team as well as independently, and will demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness and reliability.

The Direct Mail and Fundraising Assistant will analyze and manipulate data to create targeted audiences for solicitation, manage member account data and carry out data uploads and downloads. The assistant will create and maintain thank-you gift and merchandise listings for web pledge and web stores working with both the Director of Membership and the Premium Program Specialist. In addition, the assistant will provide excellent member / customer service using a variety of software packages including Microsoft Office, Team Approach and Convio.

  • Assists with all components of direct mail preparation: proofs print materials; analyzes, proofs and manipulates donor lists prior to mail drop; interacts with vendors and delivers data to mail houses.
  • Creates, maintains and distributes all source code lists monthly in Team Approach and as needed for direct mail and on-air campaigns.
  • Manages database queries and generates reports routinely and as needed.
  • Queries target audiences for email blasts and solicitations.
  • Creates and manages thank-you gift and store web listings.
  • Prepares small in-house mailings.
  • Manages inventory of stationery for direct mail efforts as well as in-house supplies and print needs.
  • Provides telephone back-up for member services.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree and/or minimum 3 years work experience in fundraising or equivalent combination.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices required.
  • Understanding of direct mail fundraising preferred.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A positive attitude, motivated self-starter, and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Experience with web applications a plus.
  • Solid knowledge of database management, Word and Excel proficiency required.
  • Knowledge of Team Approach and Convio preferred.

This position is located at MPBN’s facility in Bangor, Maine.
