Direct Mail and Membership Specialist

The Direct Mail & Membership Specialist will work closely with the Manager of Direct Mail Fundraising to provide redundancy for many segments of the mail fundraising program. This person will also perform difficult and complex data entry and maintenance in the Team Approach fundraising database, and work closely with the rest of the Membership team to provide excellent customer service. The person in this position contributes to a professional environment, works comfortably as part of a team as well as independently, and demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness and reliability.

Responsibilities include: assisting with many aspects of the direct mail fundraising program, including proofreading and writing copy; data management using a variety of platforms; maintaining thank-you gift and merchandise listings on-line; maintaining membership information and providing excellent member/customer service using a variety of software packages including Microsoft Office, Team Approach and Luminate Online; and assisting with on-air pledge.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with direct mail preparation, including writing copy, proofreading and data manipulation.
  • Creates and maintains source codes in Team Approach.
  • Manages database queries and generates reports routinely and as needed.
  • Creates and manages thank-you gift and store web listings.
  • Data entry and database maintenance.
  • Prepares small in-house mailings.
  • Manages inventory of stationery for direct mail efforts.
  • Provides excellent customer service to Members, in writing or by telephone.
  • Assists with on-air pledge.
  • Other reasonably related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or minimum 3 years work experience in fundraising or equivalent combination required.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices required.
  • Understanding of direct mail fundraising preferred.
  • Must be highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must have a positive attitude, be a motivated self-starter, and able to work collaboratively.
  • Experience with web applications preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of database management, Word and Excel proficiency required.
  • Knowledge of Team Approach and Luminate Online preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position requires significant use of a computer and video display terminal.
  • Position requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift at least forty (40) pounds.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • A valid driver's license is required.
