Senior Accountant
 

The candidate hired into this position performs a wide range of accounting and record-keeping functions utilizing well-defined procedures, and frequently requiring the exercise of independent judgment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs General Ledger (GL) functions including journal entries.
  • Performs the Accounts Receivable function as part of general duties.
  • Maintains depreciation schedule; makes quarterly depreciation journal entries.
  • Tracks and reconciles all fixed assets; follows A-122 regulations.
  • Proves month-end balances for both GL accounts and bank statements.
  • Tracks Endowment; posts Endowment gains / losses to the GL.
  • Prepare month-end close and financial reporting if required to do so.
  • Provides statistical information and cash flow analysis; routinely works with employees of other departments to analyze data.
  • Provides annual budget development support.
  • Assists in fiscal year-end preparations and annual audit preparations.
  • Assists in the preparation of yearly reports (i.e., 5500’s, CPB and SABS reports).
  • Completes and files various reports and applications to the State of Maine.
  • Perform the Accounts Payable (AP) function if required to do so.
  • Assists in the preparation of yearly reports (i.e., 5500’s, CPB and SABS reports).
  • Completes and files various reports and applications to the State of Maine.
  • Perform the Accounts Payable (AP) function if required to do so.
  • Approves AP vendor authorization.
  • Performs the bi-weekly payroll function if required to do so.
  • Prepares quarterly Federal and State of Maine 941 payroll statements.
  • Assists payroll to prepare yearly W-2 statements and related reports.
  • Provides annual payroll data to Worker’s Compensation insurance auditor.
  • Maintains accuracy of employee database information for insurance purposes; approves benefits vendor insurance premium statements.
  • Conducts property and liability insurance review with insurance broker.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public accounting required.
  • Experience with accounting software, payroll function and fixed assets preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and sound knowledge of Excel required.
  • Must work well with others within the Finance Department and also with employees of other departments across the organization.
  • Must be goal-oriented, self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
