MPBN to Substantially Improve Digital TV Signal Strength in Bangor
(BANGOR, Maine) – The Maine Public Broadcasting Network announced plans to significantly improve the signal strength of its over-the-air television broadcasts in the Bangor viewing area by installing new broadcasting equipment on Blackcap Mountain in Eddington.
MPBN President and CEO Jim Dowe said the public network has invested approximately $75,000 in a television translator to correct a signal deficiency resulting from the national conversion to digital broadcasting technology in February 2009. The conversion had the unintended effect of leaving some non-cable and non-satellite viewers without access to MPBN broadcasts in the Bangor area.
“Restoring signal integrity in Bangor has been a top priority at MPBN since the day we converted to digital in 2009,” says Dowe, adding that “healthy year-to-date operating results allows us to move ahead at this time.”
He said the signal upgrade will be completed in July of 2011.
