MPBN and USDA Rural Development Unveil Plans for $750,000 Grant Award

The Maine Public Broadcasting Network and the USDA Rural Development will share plans for critical upgrades to infrastructure which is being funded by a USDA Rural Development grant of $750,000. This "open house" event will take place at the Maine Public Broadcasting Network Studios at 63 Texas Avenue, Bangor on Tuesday, January 29th at 10 a.m.

Two MPBN Reporters Cited for Excellence by Journalistic Peers

Two veteran reporters with nearly 40 years of combined experience working for MPBN have been recognized by their journalistic peers for the quality of their reporting. Irwin Gratz, a radio news reporter who hosts MPBN’s local broadcast of the NPR program Morning Edition, is one of four recipients of this year’s Yankee Quill Award, which recognizes career contributions to the betterment of journalism in the New England states. And on a national level, Susan Sharon was awarded third place in the small market category by the Society for Environmental Journalists for her coverage of environmental issues in Maine.

MPBN to Boost Digital TV Signal Strength in Bangor

MPBN has made a significant investment in a television translator on Blackcap Mountain to close reception gaps left by digital conversion. The conversion had the unintended effect of leaving some non-cable and non-satellite viewers without access to MPBN broadcasts in the Bangor area.

MPBN to Debut Original TV Productions on Science, Sustainability

MPBN will premiere two new original half-hour television productions about a new way of combining biophysical sciences with social science and economics to study Maine’s changing landscape, and how to sustain it for future generations, on Tuesday, September 27 at 8:00 pm. The first two episodes of “Sustainable Maine” focus on Maine fishermen, loggers and scientists from the University of Maine, USM, Bates College and Bowdoin College as they work together to balance economic growth with environmental sensitivity and local traditions of land and water use in Maine.
