MBPN Recipient of USDA Grant to Upgrade Infrastructure

Maine Public Broadcasting Network has been selected to receive $750,000 in USDA Rural Development funding in the form of a Public Television Digital Transition Grant for the replacement of old analog microwave equipment. This project will replace 26 analog microwave transmitters and 28 microwave receivers that had been in significant need of repairs across the state.

MPBN Radio “Super Thursday” One-Day Pledge Drive August 1st a Success

Building on the excitement of MPBN’s previous Super Thursday One-Day Radio Pledge drives, the statewide network launched another single day fund-raising effort on Thursday, August 1st. The pledge drive’s goal was to raise $225,000 in total pledges and the drive outperformed expectations over only 18 hours of fundraising. In total, 427 new members joined MPBN’s membership base and 2,054 pledges were made totaling $227,760 in pledges secured.

Two MPBN Reporters Cited for Excellence by Journalistic Peers

Two veteran reporters with nearly 40 years of combined experience working for MPBN have been recognized by their journalistic peers for the quality of their reporting. Irwin Gratz, a radio news reporter who hosts MPBN’s local broadcast of the NPR program Morning Edition, is one of four recipients of this year’s Yankee Quill Award, which recognizes career contributions to the betterment of journalism in the New England states. And on a national level, Susan Sharon was awarded third place in the small market category by the Society for Environmental Journalists for her coverage of environmental issues in Maine.
