MPBN is very pleased to be bringing Maine this seminal documentary spearheaded by Ken Burns detailing the lives of Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. MPBN is partnering with Roosevelt-Campobello Island – featured heavily in the documentary – and bringing the documentary to life across Maine through a series of special events and screenings.

MPBN Television Schedule
Two showings each night from Sunday, September 14 through Saturday, September 20th 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm (twice each night)

About the Documentary:

THE ROOSEVELTS: AN INTIMATE HISTORY chronicles the lives of Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of the most prominent and influential family in American politics. It is the first time in a major documentary television series that their individual stories have been interwoven into a single narrative. This seven-part, fourteen hour film follows the Roosevelts for more than a century, from Theodore’s birth in 1858 to Eleanor’s death in 1962. Over the course of those years, Theodore would become the 26th President of the United States and his beloved niece, Eleanor, would marry his fifth cousin, Franklin, who became the 32nd President of the United States. Together, these three individuals not only redefined the relationship Americans had with their government and with each other, but also redefined the role of the United States within the wider world. The series encompasses the history the Roosevelts helped to shape: the creation of National Parks, the digging of the Panama Canal, the passage of innovative New Deal programs, the defeat of Hitler, and the postwar struggles for civil rights at home and human rights abroad. It is also an intimate human story about love, betrayal, family loyalty, personal courage and the conquest of fear.

Legendary actress Meryl Streep portrays Eleanor Roosevelt in readings from her personal letters and writings. Joining Streep are Paul Giamatti as the voice of Theodore Roosevelt and Edward Herrmann, two-time Emmy Award nominee for his performance as Franklin Roosevelt, as the voice of FDR. The supporting cast of "The Roosevelts" includes Patricia Clarkson, Adam Arkin, Philip Bosco, Keith Carradine, Kevin Conway, Ed Harris, John Lithgow, Josh Lucas, Carl Lumbly, Amy Madigan, Carolyn McCormick, Pamela Reed, Billy Bob Thornton and Eli Wallach. This is a Ken Burns film, written by Geoffrey C. Ward and produced by Paul Barnes, Pam Tubridy Baucom and Ken Burns.

Tea with Eleanor, a special tradition. For the Roosevelts, tea was more than just a warm drink; it was an important social event. Roosevelt Campobello International Park located in New Brunswick, Canada created a new program to creatively highlight the life of one of America's most influential First Ladies. At 3pm Atlantic time, the standard Campobello tea time, groups of 20 gather in the Hubbard House to partake of "Tea With Eleanor": bottomless cups of tea, delicious cookies, and absorbing conversation about Eleanor Roosevelt. Though there is no actual Eleanor interpreter, there are amiable guides who share from their wealth of knowledge about the former First Lady in an informal presentation, taking questions throughout the tea hour from the guests. The Camp has generously arranged to bring this experience to you. For more information on Tea with Eleanor: www.fdr.net.

Note that seating at the teas is very limited and you must send us a ticket request (limited to two per person) to us at rsvp@mpbn.net.
