The nuclear disaster in Japan is translating into skyrocketing sales for a Brewer military supply store. Frank Spizuoco, owner of Maine Military Supply, told the Bangor Daily News that he's selling hundreds of gas masks and chemical suits to Californians worried about contaminants from the crippled Japan nuke plant.
Spizuoco told the paper that people in California are also ordering related gear, such as jackets, gloves, pants and boots, despite experts' assurances that any radiation from the Japanese plant presents little risk to Americans.
Spizuoco said the buying frenzy started over the weekend. "It's pretty crazy. It reminds me of the frenzy after 9-11," he told the paper.
