Author Luthera Burton Dawson Passes Away at 100

Maine author and local historian Luthera Burton Dawson, a longtime resident of Thomaston died Monday, a few weeks after reaching her 100th birthday.

Dawson- whose works include her memoir, “Saltwater Farm", also lectured frequently on Maine language. She was interviewed by Barbara Cariddi 7 years ago, at the age of 93, about an expanded version of the memoir called "Beside the St. Georges: Forgotten Maine Ways" , which chronicles the Burton family's idyllic life on the family farm in Cushing until it was sold after the death of her father.

Dawson explained that she had begun the book decades earlier, when she left Maine for the first time to attend college

Luthera Burton Dawson, a longtime resident of Thomaston, died Monday in Cushing. She had celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this month. Dawson was interviewed by Barbara Cariddi about her book "Beside the St. Georges: Forgotton Maine Ways", in 2004.
