King Announces State Chairs for Maine U.S. Senate Campaign
05/01/2012 11:27 AM ET

Former Maine Gov. Angus King has announced nine state chairs from different parties for his campaign to win the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Olympia Snowe.

Maine Independent U.S. Senate candidate Angus King has announced nine statewide chairs for his campaign, equally divided between Republicans, Democrats and Independents.

Republicans include Sue Bell, a former state representative who served as an advisor to King when he was governor; Jim Libby, a former state representative and senator; and former Maine gubernatorial candidate Matt Jacobson.

He's also picked three Democrats: Judy Paradis, a former state representative and senator; former Maine House Speaker Michael Saxl; and Barbara Trafton, who also served in the Maine House and Senate.

In addition, King has tapped three Independents, including former Independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler; Sherry Huber, a former state representative who also ran for governor; and Richard Woodbury, a current member of the Maine Senate who also served in the Maine House.

"I am pleased to be joined by this incredible group of public servants who understand the need for bipartisanship in Washington," King says in a statement. "These individuals bring great resources and ideas to our campaign. Together, we are committed to working to overcome gridlock and to unite Mainers in sending a strong message of the need to bring civility, effective leadership and solutions to Washington."

King faces a host of Democratic and Republican foes for the seat, which is being vacated by Sen. Olympia Snowe.
