Officials say Elizabeth Williams, 55, of Portland died Sunday afternoon, the day after she was discovered by cleaning staff in a room at the Sunrise Motel on Route 1.

SACO, Maine (AP) _ Police say a homeless woman found beaten in a Saco motel room has died.

Officials say 55-year-old Elizabeth Williams of Portland died Sunday afternoon, the day after she was discovered by cleaning staff in a room at the Sunrise Motel on Route 1.

She was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

An autopsy to determine a cause of death is scheduled for Monday.

Detectives are gathering evidence and talking to people who had contact with Williams since Friday.

Police say they've also talked to a man who rented the motel room.

No one has been charged.
