Year Later, Maine's Ayla Reynolds Case is Mystery
12/13/2012 03:26 PM ET

It's been nearly a year since Waterville tot Ayla Reynolds disappeared from her father's home, and the case remains unresolved.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ A year ago, police, game wardens and FBI agents spent the days leading up to Christmas searching for a 20-month-old girl who disappeared from her father's home in the central Maine town of Waterville.

With the passing of months, the high-profile case of Ayla Reynolds remains unresolved.

Her father reported her missing on Dec. 17, 2011. Police have treated the disappearance as a crime and say they no longer believe the youngster is alive.

The case is one of only three involving young children whose disappearances remain unsolved over the past 40 years in Maine - an uncommonly high resolution rate among states.
