10/13/2009 11:19 AM ET

The 17-year-old was struck yesterday in the mouth and leg by pellets fired from his uncle's gun.

A Pennsylvania teenager is recovering after a hunting accident in Somerset County.  Authorities say a 17-year-old male, from Coatsville, Pennsylvania, was hit in the mouth and leg by pellets fired from his uncle's gun while the two were rabbit hunting in Mayfield Township.

The accident occurred yesterday morning while the party of seven were hunting rabbits with beagles off Hayden Road.  The Maine Warden Service says the teen, who has not been identified, was scanning the undergrowth for a rabbit when his uncle, Lewis Ammon, fired and struck the teen in the mouth and right leg.

The teen was taken to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, where he was treated and released.  The incident remains under investigation.
