Heating oil prices in Maine continue to edge up. According to the Governor's Office of Energy Independence and Security, the statewide average cash price for No. 2 heating oil rose 1-cent over the past week, and now stands at $2.56 a gallon.
"Crude oil prices have been rising over the last two weeks as optimism in the equities market increased and the value of the dollar decreased, pulling energy markets upward against the tide of market fundamentals," says OIES Director John Kerry in a statement.
The price of $2.56 is the average in Maine, but actual prices vary widely across the state, from a low of $2.25 in the southwest to a high of $2.85 in eastern regions.
Kerosene is now selling for an average of $2.95 a gallon statewide, and the average price of propane, based on a use of 600 gallons a year, now totals $2.61 a gallon.
