Voters have approved a $71.25 million bond issue for a variety of transportation projects across the state. The money will be used to upgrade highways and bridges, public transportation, along with airports, ferries and other facilities.
Supporters say approval of the bond will make the state eligible for another $148 million in federal matching funds. While votes are still being tallied, the vote was heavily in favor by a margin of about 67 to 33 percent.
Meanwhile, a constitutional amendment that would have allowed Maine elections officials an extra week to certify petitions was defeated by a narrow margin. |
