Kourtney Thibeaut's mother says the teen went off the road after hitting a deer.

The mother of a 17-year-old girl from Topsham who was trapped in her car in a ravine for two days after going off the road says it's going to take a long time, but the teen is expected to make a complete recovery. Katherine Perreault told reporters this morning at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston that her daughter, Kourtney Thibeault says she went off the road after hitting a deer.

"She said she swerved to avoid it and she said she thought she hit it," Perreault said. "She remembers going off into the ditch. She remembers waking up in the morning and it was daylight."

Perreault says her daughter remains in critical condition with a broken upper leg and lower jaw, but that she's starting to come out of sedation and is very grateful to everyone who searched for her. Thibeault was discovered by an alert police officer who noticed a gash in a tree by the road.
