Noble Hearts Civil War Vermont

When the Civil War erupted in 1861, Vermont was quick to answer the call.

Determined that our young nation not be divided, tens of thousands of men and boys marched into battle. At Gettysburg, the Wilderness and Cedar Creek Vermont regiments were called upon because of their courage an determination, even when faced with overwhelming odds. At home, mothers and wives organized Soldier's Aid Societies. Vermont's mills manufactured woolen blankets and uniforms and large farms shipped apples, potatoes and hay south.
