Authorities say the body of Dawn Newell, 45, of Yarmouth, was recovered from the Rangeley Lake at about 11:30 this morning.

Maine game wardens have recovered the body of a woman who crashed through the ice while snowmobiling on Rangeley Lake with her 16-year-old son.

Authorities say the body of Dawn Newell, 45, of Yarmouth, was recovered from the lake at about 11:30 this morning.

Newell and her son were traveling on separate sleds last night at about 7:30 p.m. when she crashed through the ice.  Her son, of Durham, who was following her and nearly went through the ice himself, managed to jump onto solid ice to safety, officials say.

The Maine Warden Service Dive Team, Warden Service aircraft, several game wardens and members of the Rangeley Fire and Rescue Department participated in the recovery.
