Economist: Maine Job Growth to Be Meager In 2013
01/08/2013 11:10 AM ET

A Maine economist says wage and salary jobs in the state should grow by only half a percentage point in 2013, but he says Maine will likely lose jobs if Congress fails to agree on spending, the debt ceiling and other financial matters.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Charlie Colgan of the University of Southern Maine says Maine will add about 3,100 jobs and that the unemployment rate will be essentially unchanged at 7.2 to 7.4 percent.

In his annual Breakfast With Charlie economic outlook presentation at USM, Colgan said Maine has recovered only 10 percent of the jobs it lost during the recession, while the country as a whole has recovered about half its lost jobs and Massachusetts has regained about 80 percent of its lost jobs.
