Former two-term Maine Gov. John Baldacci says he'll decide around April whether to run again for governor in the 2014 election.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Former two-term Maine Gov. John Baldacci says he'll decide around April whether to run again for governor in the 2014 election.

The former Democratic governor last month said he was considering challenging Republican Gov. Paul LePage because he's concerned about what he called the negativism of LePage's leadership style.

Baldacci told the Portland Press Herald before speaking at the Portland Regional Chamber's breakfast meeting Thursday that he expects to make a decision in the April timeframe.

He said no matter who runs, Maine needs somebody who will serve as a strong advocate and cheerleader for the state. He said LePage's "negative outbursts'' are a distraction from the issues facing Maine.
