Maine's Karen Mills Stepping Down as Head of U.S. SBA
02/11/2013 11:46

No reason has yet been given for Mills' departure from the federal agency, and there's been no word on a successor.

The U.S. Small Business Administration head, Karen Mills - a Maine resident - is stepping down.  In a statement, President Obama praises Mills' leadership of the agency over the past four years as "outstanding."

"Because of Karen's hard work and dedication, our small businesses are better positioned to create jobs and our entire economy is stronger," he says.

Two years ago, Obama elevated her role to a cabinet-level position.  No reason has yet been given for her departure, and there's been no word on a successor at the federal agency.

Prior to taking the U.S. SBA role, Mills, who is from Brunswick, was president of the investment firm MMP Group.
