UPDATE: Maine Senate Oks Concealed-Carry Measure
02/19/2013 12:12 PM ET

The Maine Senate has approved without debate an emergency measure to temporarily keep confidential the names of Maine residents with permits to carry concealed guns.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ The measure was sent to the House for a vote. It was submitted by Republican Gov. Paul LePage and sponsored by Democratic Senate Assistant Majority Leader Troy Jackson of Allagash and Democratic House Assistant Majority Leader Jeff McCabe of Skowhegan.

The bill comes up after a Bangor newspaper issued a request for the names last week. The Bangor Daily News later dropped its request.

The emergency measure would only last until April 30, allowing lawmakers more time to consider the matter.

The Senate passed a clarifying amendment before sending the bill to the House Tuesday. The bill requires two-thirds support in both chambers to pass.
