Maine College Students Evacuated after Bomb Threat
02/25/2013 11:17 AM ET

Students have been evacuated from Southern Maine Community College after an anonymous caller said there were three bombs on campus.

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Lt. Robb Couture of the South Portland Fire Department said the school's security office received the threat about 8:45 a.m. Monday, but the caller didn't provide details such as where the bombs might be located or when they might go off.

Couture said students and staff were told to leave while police from South Portland and Portland, along with bomb-detection dogs, searched the buildings on the South Portland campus. The college cancelled all daytime classes and closed the campus until 4 p.m.

The college has nearly 7,500 full- and part-time students, but it wasn't known how many were on campus at the time of the threat.
