The average cost of heating oil in Maine has fallen four cents a gallon over the past week.
That's according to the Governor's Energy Office's weekly survey, which found that the average cash price for No. 2 heating oil in Maine now stands at $3.69 per gallon, 17 cents lower than at this same time last year.
State officials cite falling crude oil prices for the decline. The lowest price in Maine for heating oil was $3.34 a gallon, found in southwest Maine, while the highest price, found in eastern Maine, was $3.90 a gallon.
Kerosene is currently selling for an average of $4.14 a gallon, a drop of a nickel, while propane, based on an annual use of at least 900 gallons, is going for an average of $2.75 a gallon, down 2 cents.
