Maine Home Sales Dip in February
03/21/2013 04:19 PM ET

The Maine Association of Realtors says this year's severe winter might have put a damper on sales.

Sales of single-family existing homes in Maine fell nearly 5 percent in February, compared with the same month last year.

But the Maine Association of Realtors says the median sales price ticked up slightly by just over 1 percent to $151,500. The median sales price indicates that half the homes sold for more and half for less.

The industry group says severe weather this winter might have crimped sales. "The snowed-in environment just wasn't conducive to home sales in most areas of the state," says association President Bart Stevens, in a statement.

In February of 2012, 624 homes were sold in Maine, compared with 593 in February of this year, the association says.

Nationally, home sales rose 8.7 percent in February and the median sales price jumped 11.3 percent, compared with February of 2012.
