Waterville Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges

Prosecutors say Maurice McCray, 31, distributed drugs throughout Kennebec and Somerset counties, setting up sales by phone.

BANGOR, Maine (AP) _ A Waterville man described by authorities as the nexus of a drug trafficking ring in central Maine has pleaded guilty to federal charges of distributing prescriptions drugs and cocaine.

Maurice McCray pleaded guilty this week in U.S. District Court in Bangor to distributing oxycodone and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of oxycodone, and more than 500 grams or more of a mixture containing cocaine.

The Kennebec Journal reports that McCray remains in custody and will be sentenced at a later date. He faces at last 10 years in prison.

The 31-year-old McCray was one of 10 people rounded up last March on federal drug charges.

Prosecutors say McCray distributed drugs throughout Kennebec and Somerset counties, setting up sales by phone.

His lawyer refused comment.
