FairPoint to Cut 90 Positions in ME, NH and VT
04/10/2013 02:46 PM ET

FairPoint says the cuts are expected to save $11 million a year in operating expenses, beginning in 2014.

FairPoint Communications says it plans to eliminate about 90 positions across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont over the next several months. That's in addition to another 30 managment positions cut last month, company officials say.

"We are adjusting our workforce to remain competitive in our market and to further position FairPoint for success," says Greg Castle, executive vice president of human resources, in a statement posted on the company's Web site.

FairPoint says the cuts are expected to save $11 million a year in operating expenses, beginning in 2014.

It's not clear how many of the positions slated for elimination are in Maine. About 1,200 of the company's approximately 3,300 workers across 17 states are employed in Maine.

Those who are eligible will be offered severance or incentive payments, which company officials say are expected to total $5 to $8 million.
