Weary Firefighters Battle Brush Fire in Lewiston
04/30/2013 03:57 PM ET

Firefighters from Lewiston, Auburn and several surrounding towns responded Tuesday afternoon to the woods fire off College Road.

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) _ Weary firefighters are battling a fast-moving brush fire in Lewiston hours after dousing a fire that destroyed three apartment buildings in the city's downtown.

Firefighters from Lewiston, Auburn and several surrounding towns responded Tuesday afternoon to the woods fire off College Road. The Maine Forest Service was dropping water.

Maine Fire Marshal investigators, meanwhile, told the Sun Journal that it'll be a "long process'' to determine the cause of a fire in an abandoned building that spread to two other apartment buildings Monday. Nobody was hurt but 75 people were left homeless.

Sgt. Joel Davis said investigators will look at wiring, candles, grills or any other indication that the cause might have been accidental.
