Lewiston Arson Suspect: Sick of Abandoned Buildings
05/13/2013 01:49 PM ET

In court documents, Brian Morin, 23, says he acted as a lookout for Bryan Wood, 29, as Wood set a cushion on fire, resulting in the destruction of two apartment buildings on Bartlett Street.

One of two men accused of deliberately setting a fire that destroyed two Lewiston apartment buildings earlier this month says they were sick and tired of abandoned buildings not being repaired by landlords.

That's according to court affidavits filed in the case. Brian Morin, 23, says he acted as a lookout for Bryan Wood, 29, as Wood set a cushion on fire.

Both men were charged with three counts of arson in their initial court appearance today. Bail was set at $350,000 each.

The fire on May 3 destroyed two buildings on Bartlett Street.

Two 12-year-old boys charged separately in connection with two earlier fires were also in court today for arraignments. Both boys denied the charges.

The three fires destroyed several buildings and left more than 180 people homeless.

This story was reported by Susan Sharon and written by Barbara Cariddi.
