06/13/2013 04:34 PM ET

The state Medical Examiner's Office says today said the cause of Nichole Cable's death "asphyxia due to compression of the neck.''

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ The state medical examiner's office says a 15-year-old girl allegedly lured to her death by a 20-year-old man using a phony Facebook profile died from asphyxiation.

The official cause of Nichole Cable's death, released Thursday, was "asphyxia due to compression of the neck.''

Dr. Margaret Greenwald, the state's chief medical examiner, released the autopsy results after consulting with the state police crime lab, which has been reviewing evidence.

Charged in Cable's death is Kyle Dube of Orono, who's being held on murder and kidnapping charges. Police say he used a fake Facebook profile to lure Cable out of her Glenburn home before killing her on May 12. Her remains were found in nearby Old Town eight days later.
