New Portland Slogan Unveiled
06/18/2013 10:50 AM ET

The city's new trademarked slogan was unveiled today by Mayor Michael Brennan, along with representatives officials representing tourism and business.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Everyone knows that what happens in Las Vegas "stays in Vegas.'' Maine's largest city is launching its own marketing campaign, and wants you to know simply that "Life's good here.''

The marketing phrase that was unveiled Tuesday is based on an essay written by gay rights pioneer John Preston, who died in 1994. The Medford, Mass., native explained in the essay why he chose to live in Portland instead of New York, entitling it, "Portland, Maine: Life's Good Here.''

The marketing campaign adds an extra word: "Portland, Maine. Yes. Life's good here.''

It was unveiled Tuesday by Mayor Michael Brennan along with representatives officials representing tourism and business. The slogan is trademarked, but the city is sharing it with local groups.
