Walking with Jack

"Someone said to me about golf a long time ago that it's not a straight line," Snyder says. "We try to turn it into a straight line: Hit the ball straight, move straight, in a straight fashion. And, it isn't, you know - things happen."

In Snyder's case those things included Jack losing his spot on a college team due to poor grades, Don enduring cold, miserable weather for months on end. But, eventually, Jack takes a turn as a traveling pro, and Don gets to be his caddie. Through it all, Snyder writes of recalibrating what being a parent is all about.

Cape Elizabeth resident Don Snyder's latest book is called "Walking With Jack." It's published by Doubleday. To hear Irwin Gratz's interview with Snyder, click the "Listen" button above.
