Maine Lawmakers and LePage Administration Try to Hammer Out Bond Deal

Legislative leaders and members of Gov. Paul LePage's administration have spent much of the day behind closed doors, negotiating a deal on bonds to go to the voters in November, and what they might do about a threat from federal officials to decertify the Riverview Psychiatric Hospital as well. Mal Leary has been talking with participants as they've gone in and out of private meetings today. He talks with Jennifer Mitchell.

Mal Leary talks with Jennifer Mitchell about closed door meetings in Augusta today to try to work out a deal on a bond package for the fall ballot, and about how to deal with a threat by the federal government to decertify the Riverview Pshyciatric Hospital.

Editor's Note:  As this story was airing, Gov. Paul LePage issued a press release indicating that a deal on bonds has been worked out. The governor says the proposed package totals $149.5 million, and includes $100 million for transportation infrastructure projects, $15.5 million for the University of Maine System, $15.5 million for the Maine Community College System, $4.5 million for Maine Maritime Academy, and $14 million to maintain and upgrade armories.
