Portland officials say the city will decide whether to issue an occupancy permit for the Baxter Academy for Technology and Science after making final reviews.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ A charter school in the Maine city of Portland has passed its third city inspection just one week before the school is expected to open.

Portland officials said Wednesday that the city will decide whether to issue an occupancy permit for the Baxter Academy for Technology and Science after making final reviews.

Baxter Executive Director Carl Stasio tells The Portland Press Herald that teachers will soon begin setting up their rooms to get ready for the school's opening next week. The school opens to more than 100 ninth and 10th-grade students Sept. 4.

The school failed two previous inspections due to fire safety related and electrical issues.

Baxter Academy is Portland's first charter school.
