Waterville Housing Authority Fights Bedbugs
09/24/2013 09:52 AM ET

Waterville Housing Authority officials say they're taking proper measures to control a bedbug infestation at an authority apartment complex, but residents say not enough is being done.

WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) _ Authority executive director Diane Townsend says the parasites have been found in two apartments in the 27-unit complex on Louise Avenue.

She tells the Morning Sentinel the authority visited the affected apartments within 24 hours of being alerted, confirmed a problem and hired a cleaning company to prepare the affected apartments for treatment by a pest control company. Adjacent apartments were also checked.

Marieda Call says that's not enough.

She is one of about 20 tenants who signed a petition asking the authority to check and treat every apartment and the common areas including laundry rooms, community kitchen and hallways for bedbugs.
