Calls Mount for UMaine to Reveal Wind Project Bid
09/24/2013 1:40 PM ET

Lawmakers and environmental groups are continuing to urge the University of Maine release details about the offshore wind project proposal.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ The university said releasing information will put it at a competitive disadvantage and that confidential proposals are the norm. But some said that the high-profile nature of the projects makes transparency vital.

The Associated Press reported Sunday that according to documents obtained through a public records request, Republican Gov. Paul LePage's administration tried to explicitly void Norwegian company Statoil's agreement with the state. The bidding process was eventually reopened, allowing UMaine to submit a bid and prompting Statoil to put its project on hold.

Since the university submitted its bid last month, Statoil, lawmakers and environmental organizations have asked the utilities commission to make some of the university's proposal public.
