UMaine Ordered to Reveal Some Wind Project Details
10/08/2013 12:12 PM ET

Maine PUC Chair Thomas Welch says that some redacted version of Maine Aqua Ventus' proposal should be made public by the end of the month.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ State regulators say the University of Maine and its partner companies must reveal some details of its offshore wind project proposal.

Public Utilities Commission Chairman Thomas Welch said on Tuesday that some redacted version of Maine Aqua Ventus' proposal should be made public by the end of the month.

The company will work with the PUC to determine what should be released and what can remain confidential.

The proposal was submitted in August after Gov. Paul LePage maneuvered to reopen the competitive bidding process, causing Norwegian company Statoil to put its project on hold.

Environmental groups and Statoil have called for the proposal's release, saying the unusual circumstances warrant full transparency. But Maine Aqua Ventus has said that would put it at a competitive disadvantage for a federal energy grant.
