ST. GEORGE, Maine (AP) _ A Maine lobster processor is being honored with a national award that recognizes young entrepreneurs.

Kyle Murdock, the founder of Sea Hag Seafood in St. George, is one of eight recipients of the 2013 Yoshiyama Young Entrepreneur awards. They were recognized at an awards dinner Monday night in Washington, D.C.

Murdock left college at age 21 to start his company after calls grew loud about the need for more in-state processors after the global economy tanked in 2008. His company hires primarily low-income people in an area with few job opportunities.

The awards are given by The Hitachi Foundation, a Washington-based philanthropic organization that supports business endeavors that help low-income people.

Each winner gets a $40,000 grant as well as access to business mentors and advisers.
