Officials to Detail Nova Scotia-Maine Ferry
11/18/2013 10:09 AM ET

A news conference has been scheduled for noon today in Portland to officially introduce daily round-trip service from Maine's largest city to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Maine Gov. Paul LePage and officials from a Nova Scotia ferry service are introducing a daily round-trip service from Yarmouth to Portland.

Nova Scotia's government signed an agreement with Quest Navigation of Eliot, Maine and ST Marine Ltd. recently to re-establish the service. The ferry is expected to start operating as early as May, more than four years after it was scrapped because the subsidies were cut.

The ferry is called Nova Star Cruises. More than 100,000 people are expected travel on the ferry in its first year of operation.

A news conference has been scheduled for noon Monday at the Visitor Information Center at the Ocean Gateway Pier.
