11/18/2013 02:20 PM ET

Thirty-eight-year-old Justin Pillsbury, who appeared Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court, was ordered held without bail until a hearing Friday, in connection with the stabbing death of Jillian Jones.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Court records indicate a Maine man charged with murdering his 24-year-old girlfriend told a roommate that he blacked out after catching her on the phone with another man.

Thirty-eight-year-old Justin Pillsbury, who appeared Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court, was ordered held without bail until a hearing Friday.

The body of Jillian Jones was found stabbed to death in an Augusta apartment Wednesday. A state police affidavit says Jones had wounds on her head and neck.

Pillsbury was arrested two days later after being treated for self-inflicted stab wounds. He had a bandage on his neck on Monday.

The affidavit says Pillsbury told another man who lived in the apartment that he blacked out and ``screwed up.'' It also says Pillsbury confessed to killing Jones.

Pillsbury's attorney had no comment.
