Maine Heating Oil Prices Steady, Propane Rises
11/19/2013 03:39 PM ET

State officials say propane prices, on average, have risen 9 cents a gallon since late October, jumping 3 cents in the past week to a statewide average of $2.76.

Heating oil prices remained steady for another week. That's according to the Governor's Energy Office, which says its weekly survey found that the current statewide average cash price for No. 2 heating oil now stands at $3.53 per gallon, unchanged from two weeks ago.

Kerosene prices also remained steady, but propane prices, on average, have risen 9 cents a gallon since late October, jumping 3 cents in the past week to a statewide average of $2.76.

GEO officials say a short-term propane shortage in the Midwest, and lower inventories in New England, are likely causes for the increase. They say crude oil supplies are relatively high for this time of year, as oil production in the U.S. increases, leading to a decline in the per barrel price.
