Researcher Posits Maine the Site of Past Super-volcanic Activity
12/27/2013   Reported By: Tom Porter

You may not associate Maine with volcanic activity. But the Maine coast is, believe it or not, home to at least four so-called super-volcanoes, whose eruptions could have been among the biggest on earth. UMass Amherst Professor of Geoscience Sheila Seaman recently addressed the Geological Society of America on this topic at the group's annual meeting. Tom Porter asked professor Seaman, among other things, to explain the difference a regular volcano and a super-volcano.
