Coldest Weather In 3 years On Tap For Maine
01/03/2014 08:47 AM ET

The National Weather Service says Maine is about to experience the coldest temperatures in three years.

CARIBOU, Maine (AP) _Forecasters say the wind chill could make it feel 45 degrees below zero on Friday in parts of northern Maine.

A wind chill warning has been issued for most of the state, meaning people who don't dress properly risk frost bite and hypothermia.

But it's already been plenty cold across the state. WAGM-TV says Caribou hit 28 below early Thursday, breaking the old record of minus-20 for the date.

John Cannon from the weather service office in Gray says the coldest weather will be Friday night. He says it'll be the coldest temperatures since January 2011.

Southern Maine got up to a foot of snow, enough to push the season's snow total to about 3 feet in Portland.

The weather service said the strongest gust reported at the Portland International Jetport was 32 mph. There were at least 200 power outages, a far cry from the 160,000 outages from last week's ice storm.
