Rash of Burglaries in Bangor Occurred With Homeowners Asleep Inside
01/03/2014 3:50 PM ET

The Bangor Police Department has been busy investigating several home burglary complaints over past couple of months. Police say that many of the burglaries occurred while homeowners were inside sleeping.

BANGOR, Maine __ Lt. Paul Edwards said the department's Criminal Investigations Division has recovered a substantial amount of jewelry reported stolen and that it will be returned to owners as soon as possible.

"We do know that the suspect that we have in this case is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges," Edwards said. "So we're confident that the person that was involved in this is off the streets and in jail."

The suspect's name has not been released since charges for each of the crimes have not yet been filed. Police said more information about the suspect might be released in the next few days.

Edwards said that despite holding whom he believes to be the perpetrator of these crimes, homeowners should still remain vigilant.

"Obviously, lock your homes," said Edwards. "There are people who will break into your home while you are in it, which is a lot of these that were happening, were home invasions where people were home."

The stolen goods were valued at thousands of dollars and the case is still under investigation. Charges are expected to be felonies.
