A federal judge said 44-year-old Fredrick Butler Jr. is ``incapable of stopping'' himself after handing down a sentence that included a lifetime of probation upon release.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- A Lewiston man already listed on Maine's sex offender registry has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sending child pornography over the Internet.

A federal judge said 44-year-old Fredrick Butler Jr. is ``incapable of stopping'' himself after handing down a sentence that included a lifetime of probation upon release.

Butler pleaded guilty in December to a transportation of child pornography charge.

Prosecutors say in April 2013, Butler sent an email to an Oregon man that had 19 images attached, many of them depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit behavior.

The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1garbDy ) reports that Butler's attorney argued for a shorter sentence because his client has various physical and mental health ailments.

Butler apologized in court.

He had previously been convicted of gross sexual assault involving minors.
