King Steers Health Care Consumers to Alternative Web Site
11/12/2013 03:08 PM ET

Maine U.S. Sen. Angus King says consumers who can't access Affordable Care Act information on the government's Web site can compare plans using a different one.

For Mainers thwarted by the problems with the government's Affordable Care Act Web site, there is an alternative, says Maine U.S. Sen. Angus King.

King, and independent, says consumers who can't access the information they need on can compare plans using another Web site:

King says the site, created by George Kalogeropoulos, Ning Liang and Michael Wasser of San Francisco, allows those in the 34 states - including Maine - that don't have marketplace Web sites, to compare plans covered under the ACA.

Plans can't be purchased through the site, but King says for users who want to enroll, HealthSherpa directs them to private insurance companies' Web sites and telephone numbers.

King says HealthSherpa has a user-friendly platform, allowing consumers to compare premium costs, coverage and possible subsidies. "I recommend that Mainers who are having trouble with use HealthSherpa as a temporary alternative until the federal website functions properly," King says in a statement.
