12/30/2011 For decades the number of women choosing to become nuns has been on a sharp decline. According to a Georgetown University study, there were nearly 180,000 sisters in 1965. Today, that number has dropped by two-thirds, down to fewer than 60,000. And the vast majority are over the age of 60. In Maine, the Good Shepherd Sisters are trying to reverse this trend through a public relations campaign, social media and traditional prayer. Take a look at this small order in southern Maine, what its members have accomplished and the effort to recruit younger women to carry on the mission.
