PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ A nonpartisan group that tried unsuccessfully to draft a candidate to run for president is giving support to independent Angus King in the U.S. Senate race in Maine.

The Americans Elect super PAC is spending $500,000 on TV ads praising King's political independence. The narrator says, "Here in Maine, people aren't looking for Democratic jobs or Republican jobs, we just need jobs.''

King has been the target of more than $2 billion in spending by conservative and GOP-aligned super PACs.

Also in the race are Republican Charlie Summers, Democrat Cynthia Dill and three additional independents, Steve Woods, Danny Dalton and Andrew Ian Dodge.
