Maine Hunter Shot Dead in Wales Identified
11/21/2012 2:14 PM ET

Authorities say Gerard Parent, 49, was killed by a bullet fired by Christopher Austin, 41, while both men were hunting separately in the town of Wales.

State officials have identified a hunter who was fatally shot yesterday in Wales.  The Maine Warden Service says Gerard Parent, 49, was shot by Christopher Austin, 41.  Both men are residents of Wales.

Officials say Parent and Austin were hunting with rifles and pursuing the same deer in the woods off East Road yesterday afternoon.  Parent fired one shot and Austin fired two.  It appears that Austin's second shot struck Parent, killing him.

A post-mortem of Parent is scheduled for today at the state Medical Examiner's Office.  The shooting remains under investigation.
