Maine Legislative Democrats Nominate 3 'Constitutional Officers'
12/04/2012 05:12 PM ET

Majority Democrats have nominated their candidates for secretary of state, attorney general and state treasurer.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Maine legislative Democrats have selected their nominees for three highly visible state offices - secretary of state, treasurer and attorney general - and their votes are all but guaranteed to return two of them to offices they previously held.

House and Senate Democrats gathered together today to make their nominations in advance of the formal opening of the new legislative session.

They nominated Matthew Dunlap of Old Town as secretary of state and Janet Mills of Farmington as attorney general. Both previously held those posts before Republicans ousted them in 2010 after the GOP took control of the Legislature.

Democrats also nominated Neria Douglass as state treasurer. Douglass, who's been state auditor for the last eight years, also is all but certain to win a final vote Wednesday.
